A personal recommendation: Selecting the right golf clubs for you.
Selecting the right golf clubs for you is an involved process We are all different and because of our differences we need help. My suggestion is like anything the quality of help will impact the quality of the results. A friend will likely tell you what you need based on limited information, and a golf pro (much better choice) may be motivated by a relationship with a name manufacturer, or worst the markup in one selection over another. Consider the source of your information, and then use that information to put you on the path of the right clubs for you. The clubs must feel right for you and your swing. You do not want to buy clubs that you need to adjust your swing to match the clubs, but find the clubs that match "your" swing.
I recall a question asked of Greg Norman, something like Greg what do you consider the most important part of in playing good golf? His answer was right on: To play good golf is like having a good marriage, it takes the right equipment. I never forgot that answer.
This is what works for me, and I hope it works for you. I use Adams Clubs for a reason, and that reason is they give "me" the best preformance for my swing. Another brand may work for you, but I suggest if you have not tired Adams give them a try, and then decide for yourself. I use the Adams Speedline Driver, this is where technology can help your swing, check out the video below.
Another thing I strongly suggest is to get a proper fitting for your clubs. Your clubs need to have the proper shaft lenght and lie angle for your swing. We are lucky in my area to have many good outlets like PGA Superstore and Golf Galaxy to help us with the correct fitting. They also have indoor hitting areas equipped with computers to measure your club head speed, ball spin, direction and much more. A warning, as good as the equipment they use the person assisting you is a sales person, don't let them start telling you anything that is not directly related to the equipment. Remember they may be motivated by a promotion, markup or something outside of selecting the right clubs for you. Stick with shaft lenght, stiffness, and club head lie that is where they can help you the best. Only you can tell the feel in your hands.
OK, that should be enough, but it gets better. One of my missions, and reason for “Senior Golfer” is to help other Seniors through sharing Golf experiences, and trying to find the best value for the buck. I am retired, and consider Golf the "Fountain of Youth". I have met other seniors, and other Golfers that share a common interest in Golf. We can all help each other by sharing what works for us.
